Favourite hair serums

Hi there! Pff, I'm sorry for the lack of blogging. I finished a 25 page essay on online shopping yesterday, it took quite a lot of my time! I've also been studying hard, but it's been worth it :) My grades are great! It's been snowing a bit here in the Netherlands, and it's been freezing like crazyyy. I hate going outside. Anyways, I'm rambling, here's a little tip for all the ladies out there with frizzy or dry hair. These are my absolute favourite hair serums, they are so silky and smell delicious. They definitely work for me too;

The bottle on the left is Biosilk's famous silk therapy serum. The other cute little bottle is the pearl complex treatment (it contains white truffle and pearl, sounds super fancy haha) by Farouk. I usually apply the pearl complex on my damp hair after washing and the biosilk when my hair's dry right before styling it. They're both awesome for smoothing out your hair and to make it look shiny, but the pearl complex serum is probably my favourite out of the two :) Make sure to only use a few drops or your hair will get oily though!

Why hello there! I had such a lovely, relaxed weekend. On saturdaynight we (my family and me) went to see Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and it was such an amazing movie. I recommend you to go and see it! It's super exciting. I love all kinds of movies but action movies and horror/thrillers are probably my favourites. I absolutely adore watching movies in the weekends, I have to admit that sometimes I prefer watching a movie on the couch with some snacks over going out clubbing. Especially since it's so cold at night now and I have to go downtown on my bike!

There's no outfit picture today since I'm wearing my new uggs and the grey overshoulder sweater you've all seen so many times before ;)

Japanese genmaicha green tea is my favourite, it's sooo good and healthy too. The green tealeaves are mixed with popped rice, which adds a lovely flavour. I love drinking tea with my breakfast and after coming home from school.

My bag is getting pretty worn because I take it to school every day. Here it is looking empty and sad haha.

How to make ice coffee

Happy saturday! Since I'm addicted to ice coffee and pre-packaged ice coffee can be pretty expensive if you purchase them on a daily/weekly basis, I figured out how to make my own version of ice coffee! In my opinion it tastes pretty good, so I'd like to share my little recipe with you :)

This is what we're going to make! Doesn't it look good?

Step 1: choose the coffee you're going to use, I'm going to make coffee using Senseo pads so I get flavoured coffee. This coffee slightly tastes like vanilla and caramel, it's really tasty. If you want caramel flavoured coffee but you dont have these pads, you can try adding some caramel syrup to your coffee. If you want vanilla flavoured coffee you could add a packet (or half of it) of vanilla powder and mix it with hot coffee.

Step 2: before pouring your coffee in a cup, add 1 big tablespoon of sugar (if you like your ice coffee sweet you can add 2 tablespoons) and mix it really well with the hot coffee so it dissolves.

Step 3: place your coffee in the fridge for about 2 hours so it can cool down.

Step 4: prepare a big glass by filling it with icecubes. I put 16 little heartshaped icecubes in my glass. Just add enough to fill your glass, but do not overstuff it because otherwise there won't be room for the coffe and milk.

Step 5: add the cold coffee. This is the content of my little cup, it looks like a lot because of the icecubes!

Step 6: add milk until your glass is full. I'm really disappointed with this picture because once you begin pooring in the milk you get this really pretty marbled effect when the milk and coffee start mixing, but I didn't manage to capture it on camera in my haste :( boo!!

Step 7 (optional): After stirring the milk and coffee, I usually take a few sips and then add a little bit more milk so the taste becomes more mild. This is optional, you don't have to do this, but I like a lot of milk. Ofcourse don't forget to stir really well.

That's it, you're done! I hope you'll end up making some delicious ice coffee aswell. If you have any variations on ice coffee recipes, I'd love to hear them!

I'm sorry the photos don't look nice and bright like my photos usually do, it was raining all day and very cloudy outside so I had to use flash.

To make up for these unpleasant looking photos I have some photos of more.. ice coffee! I took these yesterday when the sun was shining. Since my mom knows how much I love iced coffee she always looks for new kinds to bring me home. These were a nice surprise because they rarely sell starbucks here in Holland.

New uggs & earrings

Today I finally got the Uggs I've been wanting! Another thing to remove from my wishlist :) I also ordered some really cute dreamcatcher style earrings (for those of you who wonder where I got them, it's this seller on e-Bay: click).

I'm delighted it's weekend! No tests to do, no stress and plenty of time to do the things I love. The house smells like apple pie and I'm enjoying some hot chocolate with whipped cream. I also have a nice idea for a blogpost! You'll see what it is soon, I'm excited to hear your feedback allready haha.

Aren't they beautiful? They are quite long so they look beautiful next to long hair. Have a great weekend everyone!

Hiiii there! At last, my testweek is over! As I wrote in my last post, things haven't been going really well the past few weeks and then came christmas, new years and testweek back at school so I didn't have much time to blog. However, I'm so happy to get my rest and blog back <3 I really screwed up the last 3 exams and it really frustrates me, a lot. I've been working so hard and I really want to do my very best to leave this town and easily get into university (abroad), but yeah, it's not that easy. From now on, I'm going to work even harder.

I still don't have my own camera and I haven't been taking proper pictures the past few weeks so here's some mobile shots. Really random though! I'll post a 'normal' post really soon.

What has been going on..

Dear readers, I missed you! I've been receiving quite a lot of messages complaining about my lack of posts- but please take note I will not stop blogging or blog less often- there has just been going on a lot the past few weeks. Let me list the most important things:

~ I've been really sick for about 1,5 weeks. I just finished my antibiotics and I'm feeling a lot better now, but while I was sick I just lay in bed all day looking crappy and wearing pyjamas so I had nothing to photograph :( I couldn't even wear something nice on christmas because I was still feeling crappy.

~ Two weeks ago the guy I've been dating for a while and who I really ~~liked~~ loved told me he wanted to be 'free' and we won't see eachother again. I've been really sad about this and I haven't felt really happy ever since. It was the same day I began to feel sick by the way haha.

~ I have christmas break (this is the first week of 2) and I have a loooot of studying to do and when it's vacation I usually don't dress up a lot haha, so I probably won't blog much next week either. But when school starts I'll be completely back on track :)

~ Lastly, my dad lent my camera to someone for a few weeks without asking me.. I may lend his but I'm really not used to working with it and it's so heavy so I apologize for the quality of photographs in the coming few posts, it might be a little messed up.

I hope you all understand and forgive me, and thank you so much for sticking around and sending me sweet messages. I hope you all had the best christmas ever! What did santa get you? I'm really happy with my presents, I got a gorgeous rose gold Michael Kors watch and matching rose gold earrings. It looks so much better in real life, but I took some pictures for you. I love it! I also took a few pictures of some christmas food, but sorry peeps there's not much to see (I'm so sad about this, I was really excited about a massive christmas post but I can't give you one now)

Holiday outfit struggles

Am I the only one having a hard time deciding what to wear on christmas and new years eve? I'd like to wear a dress and heels, but I'm really not sure which ones! I want to look festive and not overdone, but since I'm going out clubbing on new years eve it must be something somewhat comfortable too to get me through the night.. I found this LBD (little black dress) in my closet and I'm contemplating whether I should wear it on NYE or not.. Comfortable, hm not so much haha. But it looks pretty good and it has tule wrapped around it which is really cute.

Well hello there :) Here's a quick outfit of the day or OOTD post for you. For those of you who were wondering how my fake tan is doing, I applied it 6 days ago and it's still looking great! Check the photo below if you want to see for yourself. I wore my denim blouse (by H&M) with a lot of black today. I love wearing black because it suits with everything and especially matches well with denim jackets or blouses.

I failed at winking and look like a creep now, haha.

Let's get fit!

Good evening my dears! If you're feeling down or frustrated, there's nothing better than getting a good workout at the gym. I got home from school at 5.30pm today and decided to go to the gym after dinner. I haven't been there for a while, but it was great to be back! I always feel so satisfied when I'm done. I'm trying to get some killer abs, so I had a banana flavoured protein shake (yikes, it's gross) and a portion (about 20) of dry roasted almonds since they're packed with protein aswell. Roasted almonds are delicious. Remember to drink a lot of water and get your protein after training your muscles so they can recover nicely :) I'm going to leave you with some photos of my 'gym outfit' and post-workout snacks while I go and snuggle up in bed.

Adobe Photoshop tutorial

Good evening everyone! Today I'm going to share with you how I edit my photographs. I'm going to show you 3 different styles (as seen on the picture below) using my beloved Adobe Photoshop CS3. I think this will work for all of Adobe's programs in the CS-series since they're all pretty similair. I use these techniques to enhance my photographs as much as possible. So this is what I'm going to teach you today:

The original, unedited photograph is showed in the upper right corner. In the upper left I edited it like I usually do (that's why I called it my style haha). The other two are are a bonus :)

So let's get started with my technique. After you open your picture, the first thing you're gonna do is resize your photo. This is very important since photographs are usually huge files!

Step 1: Resize. Right click the bar that includes the name of your file (in this case the bar that says 'DSC_6242.JPG') and click 'Image Size..' a window will pop up that looks like this:

Make sure the box 'constrain proportions' is checked! You can make it whatever size is convenient for you but I prefer a 650px width since it fits on my blog.

Step 2: Sharpen. I don't sharpen my photos a lot since they allready are pretty sharp and if you overdo it your photos will end up looking grainy and ugly. To slightly sharpen, click Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen and a window will pop up. Sharpen to your liking, I'll sharpen with 25% as you can see:

Step 3: Adjusting curves. This step is very important and makes the most difference to me. You can brighten or darken your photo manually as much as you like, and if you pick the 'Auto option' you usually get beautiful results. I'm going to do it manually here. Click Image > Adjustments > Curves. You'll see a window with a graph. Click the line in the graph somewhere near the top and drag it up. Your photo gets brighter as you keep dragging up (or darker if you drag it down).

Step 4: Adjusting shadows & highlights. To eliminate or reduce darker tones in your photo, adjust your shadows. I'm going to reduce shadows with 15%. This will instantly brighten up your photo. If you want to darken it, reduce highlights with as much % as you like.

Step 5: Adjusting colors. My final step is changing the colours a little bit. I like reducing the yellow tones (-15 in this photo) and adding a little extra cyan (+9). You can play around and slide the bars of different colours and see what you like best, it's fun and easy.

We're done! This was really easy right? If you want to see the before/after again go to the start of this post. Ofcourse you don't have to follow my instructions exactly when editing your photos, these are just some guidelines to help you. Experimenting with photoshop is so much fun and you will discover what suits your style best!

If you're someone who likes bright and light looking photos, this is for you! In just one small step we can transform my (allready edited) photo into a light, sweet-looking picture. Go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and another graph will appear. There will be little black, grey and white arrows underneath it. Drag the grey arrow to the left and do the same with the white one, you'll see that your photo will lighten up a lot. Drag until you're satisfied with the result.

And last but not least, black and white photos always look classy and are also great for the lazy people who don't feel like adjusting colors and curves ;) This is also very simple to do, all you have to do is go to Image > Adjustments and select Black & White!

So that was it. Since I've been receiving many questions about how I edit my photos and what program I use I decided to dedicate a post to it. I hope this was helpful and I wish you the best of luck, and especially fun with editing your photos!

Room tour

Xen-Tan dark lotion review

Hi there my dear readers! I'm excited to announce my first beauty product review ever :) Obviously it's something I've never tried before and it's different from my usual outfit posts so I hope you're all interested since I'm planning to do more of these in the future. I'd love to hear what you guys think.

I love being tan, but since they don't last forever and my nice summer tan faded months ago I figured I needed a 'sun free' way of becoming tan. We do have a tanning bed at home and I've used it a few times, but exposure to the UV lights tanning beds radiate significantly increase the risk of getting skin cancer. For me, this just wasn't worth it so I went on and googled a bit to find a selftanner that promised a longlasting and NOT orange coloured tan. Since I'm a rookie with selftanning becoming orange was my biggest fear haha.

Yep, this was the selftanner I ended up buying! It's the dark lotion by Xen-Tan. I also bought the tanning mit that you're supposed to use with it. They sell different shades of selftanner, but I wanted a dark tan so I chose the dark lotion. I read some promising reviews on the internet and the website also claims different celebrities like lady gaga use their selftanners too, so I expected good results and this is what happened:

That looks amazing doesn't it? The lotion comes in a handy bottle with a pump- which saves you a lot of mess. It comes out as a really dark thick liquid, which kinda reminded me of chocolate sauce. It has quite a strong scent, but it fades once you've had it on for a few hours. I don't really know how to describe the scent, it smells a bit like vanilla and coconut and almonds?

When I first applied it I tried using the mitt, but this just didn't work for me. I found that you don't have much control over where you want to put the lotion and I didn't know how to blend with it. So I ended up putting the mitt away and using my hands. After I got the hang of applying it with my hands it was actually really easy! I just applied a rich layer and quickly blended it while it was wet. My hands did end up a very deep brown colour, but after a few minutes of washing them under warm water with soap it wasn't really noticable anymore.

Once you're done applying it all over your body and face you're supposed to leave it on for atleast 3 hours and 7 to 8 for the best result. I left it on for about 8 hours before washing it off, because I wanted the best possible result :) I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome! Especially for someone like me (not experienced with selftanning at all) it was really easy to apply- and except for the arm I tried to tan with the mitt- I don't have any streaks. I did exfoliate before applying the tan and I definitely do recommend doing that. I looove the colour, it has olive undertones so it looks very natural and not orange at all. I've also had many people commenting on how tan I look today haha, I should've done it in the weekend so the sudden skintone change wouldn't have been so obvious but I was too impatient. This is definitely a must have for all you ladies out there who want to try selftanning or who just can't find the perfect fake tan. Conclusion:

pros:
+ easy to apply
+ gives you a beautiful natural looking tan (not orange)
+ it's dark and you can make your tan even darker if you want by applying multiple layers
+ doesn't smell bad
+ hygienic and efficient packaging (pump dispenser)
+ the tan should last for about a week
+ it's very moisturising and left my skin feeling super soft

cons:
- The price, one 236ml bottle sells for £29 which is a lot of money to me
- applying with a mitt requires skills and you will get your handpalms coloured if you use your hands
- you'll have to be careful when the tan is developing and wear loose clothing, don't get wet etc.

As you can see I'm very happy I discovered this product and I'll definitly buy myself a new bottle when mine runs out! I hope this was useful and that you all enjoyed it,

Relaxing

I hate to admit it, but lately I find it so hard to motivate myself to study or do other schoolrelated projects. What is it you guys do when you really need to get something done? Do you promise yourself a reward after doing it? I just can't bring myself to any of it and I keep being destracted by my phone, the internet, tv and even more boring things like cleaning my room or randomly laying on my bed listening to music haha. So I figured I should go and blog instead of messing around ;)

I know many of you love wintertime and the cosyness and joy that comes with it but I gotta say I hate winter. Especially since the weather here is so bad. It's raining, hailing and the wind is blowing really hard. It's not even that bad if you can stay inside all day, but unfortunatly I ride my bike for an hour a day (because of school) and it really sucks. Fortunatly, there are ways to keep yourself warm and to relax:

The (oh so charming looking) mint juleb mask I blogged about before ;) it's so amazing! My little brother exclaimed ALIEN when he saw me.

This body scrub smells super delicious, it smells so good I sometimes randomly open it to sniff it haha. As you can see I've used a lot of it allready! I bought one for my mom too. I think coconut is the kind of smell you either love or hate.

One more thing! I'm really excited because I got two beauty ~projects~ I'm working on which means I'm reviewing/testing some things you girls might be interested in! So keep checking my blog :D

I'm currently looking for a new job, but it's so hard. I'm kinda picky, which doesn't really help.. I want to do something that I enjoy instead of working somewhere feeling like a robot (purely for the $$$) like my previous job. But I guess my standards are too high for someone my age. Most people my age who can't find a job (or don't know what to do) end up working at a supermarket.

Oops, I was doing so well blogging but I skipped a day yesterday (sshh, forget about it allready)! Knee highs

Whenever I come home from school, I change into comfy clothes. I was happy to see that my cute soccer style socks were in the mail today haha. Then I usually check the internet/watch some tv and do my homework. Is it geeky to say that I'm excited that it's mystery night at national geographic today? I absolutely love this channel, it keeps amazing me and I'm eager to learn about our world- and I'll hopefully travel it later in life.

New piercing?!

So did the title get you curious? I'm just joking though, it's not a real piercing, but I do like it! I'm quite a fan of those earcuffs (with a chain attached to it)too but I don't think I'll ever go out wearing one of these..

This mask is great and really refreshing :) I feel like it really does shrink pores a little bit and it makes your complexion look more even. Just wanted to recommend it to you, it might be helpful.

Lovely sunday

What a great weekend this was! Yesterdaynight was great and I woke up a bit hungover today, but it was worth it. Then I slept in untill 1 pm and ate some croissants, took a shower and went on a wonderful date. We watched the Hangover II and I had dinner over there ♥ Too bad it's coming to an end now, sunday night means homework night and I really don't want to go back to school :( I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Sephora & shopping

Hey there, this morning/midday I got to work at Sephora as 'santa's helper'. It's pretty hard packing all these products without using tape, but I think I did fairly well. They'll call me on monday to let me know if I got the job, ugh I don't know, I hope I'll get it! All the girls who work there were so kind and pretty.

Hey everyone, just a quick update for you all! I hope you're all well and celebrating that spring is (finally!) here! ♥ I ordered some cute new clothes for spring and will post a haul later. This week and next week are going to be so boring for me, I have testweek in a week and I have lots of subjects to study and catch up to, I really gotta do my best if I wanna pass this year. So, no clubbing this weekend and studying a lot! As for today, I just enjoyed my free time after school :)

Lazy Sunday

Yesterday my friend who recently turned 17 threw a nice dinnerparty and afterwards we went clubbing :) There were like 6(!) courses and it all tasted delicious! No pictures of the food unfortunatly, but I do have some of my outfit haha.

I always have mixed feelings about sundays, I work on fridays and saturdays so it's actually the only day in the week I have nothing to do, but it's also the last day of the week which means school will start again on monday. It also is my last vacation day today :( I'm just downloading music and playing restaurant story on my iPod now (this game is so addicting, haha!) If anyone has any nice house music suggestions, let me know!

Hey guys! I missed blogging! I promise that from now one I'll blog a lot more :) Better than the crappy 1 post a month.. I'm kinda new to blogging so I always worry that my posts are boring and I'd rather post nothing than a boring entry, but I'll try my best. I'm so happy it's going to be spring soon, I'm so tired of the cold. For the first time in weeks the sun was shining today and it actually was warm enough to be outside. I reallyyy want a tan so I can't wait untill it's summer haha! I got a new cover for my blackberry off eBay and it's so.. shiney!

Being the sucker that I am, I actually dropped it today and it has like 4 scratches now.

I had no school this week because of carnaval (4 days of dressing up like you do on halloween and partying on cheesy dutch music, woo!) and it was great. I had a fun time with my friends and I totally enjoy wearing cute costumes, haha! I went as a maid, as seen on my tumblr.

Let's talk about hair!

Since many of you have been asking about my hair and how long it took me to grow it/if I dyed it/etc. etc. I've decided to write a blog entry about my hair from 2008 (being 14 years old) untill now, 2011. I've posted quite a lot of pictures on my tumblr (check them out here) so check those out aswell! Let's start :)

2008, no styling

Sidenote: oh how I wish my skin was as flawless as it was here again! :( This was my hair in 2008, without styling.

I'ts similair to my hair now, but still my natural colour! Not much has changed since 2009.

2010, july

I got myself a fringe! I liked it a lot, but since I have naturally curly/wavy hair it would get all frizzy when it rained/the wind blew a lot so looking back at it I'm really glad I got it in summer and not in winter haha. It did made me breakout on my forehead and since it didn't really go with my type of hair I decided to grow it out. I also got a few highlights.

2010, october

I decided to dye it to blonde! I'm really excited and I'm still really happy with it even though it did make my hair a bit dry (still looking for some good hair masks, any recommendations? :)) As you can see my fringe grew quite a lot allready. My hair is now at waist length.

2011, january

This photo was taken last week and I went to the hairdresser yesterday to get my split ends cut off. It still reaches to the middle of my back but no longer waist length, and I think it looks a lot more healthier now!

Benefit haul and other stuff

Hey everyone, it's been a while! Test week is coming up next week and I have so much to do, but I really wanted to blog because it's been so long and I'm missing it a lot :) I don't know if I'm the only one who feels like this, but I really dislike taking pictures indoors (without sunlight) because they always look ten times worse then when I take them in natural lightning! The thing is that I always get home when it's dark outside allready (ugh, winter) and in the weekends I work so I really do not have many opportunities to take photos. I want everything to be perfect and am only gonna show you guys the very best! I'm just gonna throw in some random photo's now, enjoy <3

I've been asked what my jacket looks like many times, so here it is for everyone who was wondering. It's by Tommy Hilfiger and it's really comfy and warm.

I've done some shopping at Benefit! I never actually owned a Benefit product before and I'm glad I tried them out because they are amazing! Clockwise: Lemon Aid, Eye Bright, Ooh La Lift, Stay Don't Stray, Smokin' eyes palette and Big Beautiful Eyes palette. I've been coping with dark circles for ages (they're genetic and never seem to disappear) so that's why I was eager to try so many concealing products and I must say these do a great job! They cover them up really well.

The palettes come with easy instruction booklets for make-up noobs like me ;)

These are my make-up products I use every day. Lemon aid to cover up my dark circles, a lash curler, L'oreals Volume Million Lashes in extra black and Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner.

I'm getting my hair cut next week! I'm probably going to cut off a few inches because it's at waist length now and it's so long and takes a LOT of time to take care of. I really like having long hair, but I just want it to be a little shorter because that will be a lot more practical haha. Fortunatly my hair grows very fast!
